AND ANOTHER THING...

Following on from the debate about using private golf courses for public exercise (MetroTalk, Thu), might I suggest that a better first step would be for publicly owned facilities to be redeployed for the general good.

The various restaurants within the Houses of Parliament could be made available to provide healthy meals for the children of London, for example.

As neither the Commons nor the Lords sit during the school holidays, I’m sure that all politicians and the Lords themselves would support this idea. After all, these kitchens produce such fine quality food for minimal cost – or that is what we are often told.

In response to Martin Lawrence (MetroTalk, Thu), he has chosen to focus on part of the reason why

Football Association chairman Greg Clarke was forced to step down – it was his racist comments that caused his undoing.

The fact he used the word ‘coloured’, which is a description from the colonial days, shows how out of touch he was with how black people describe themselves. ‘People of colour’ is an American term for anyone who isn’t white.

I class myself as ‘black’ – that’s my preferred description – and if Mr Lawrence was confused, he should have looked it up! Sonia McDonnell, St Albans

Is government adviser Dominic Cummings leaving just to test his eyesight? If Boris Johnson’s fiancée Carrie Symonds is getting rid of dead wood in Downing Street, it looks like queen has taken the castle. Will Cummings retreat to the comfort of the keep, at his father-in-law’s, and have an undeserved rest?
