JODIE IS KILLING IT ONLINE AND IT’S ALL DONE FOR LOVE

-

ODIE COMER has assassinated naysayers about her love life after her new squeeze was ‘cancelled’ over claims about which way he votes. The Killing Eve star is smitten with lacrosse player James Burke, 26, who hails from Massachusetts. But, far from cheering on her happy news, trolls dug around to allege Burke is a closet Republican voter and Donald Trump supporter. The jibes had a physical impact on the Emmy winner, who said: ‘All this false information came out about him, and people ridiculed him and me and my family. ‘People took these tweets as truth. That was the biggest time my life has been kind of blown up and publicised in that way.’

The actress, 27, added: ‘A lot of people read things and go, “Wow, she’s this type of person”. And I’m like, “OK, I can spend my life and energy trying to convince people otherwise, or go, I know my truth and that’s good enough for me.”’

Mean tweets included one that read: ‘Jodie Comer after posting the

BLM hashtag on her story once and recording a video for pride then going back to her Republican boyfriend.’

But the TV star has mastered the knack of tuning out critics – she simply switches her smartphone off.

‘I feel like I’ve sussed it out,’ she told Porter. ‘But it took a while and got to a point where it was affecting my health. You forget how accessible we are when we have mobile phones. In my head, it was like there is a line of people outside my front door who have nasty things to say to me, and I’m saying, “Come on in! Sit on my couch, tell me.” When I realised that was what I was doing, I knew I just had to stop.’

And Comer says having a boyfriend who isn’t in the public eye ‘can be very strange and surreal’. ‘I’m very cautious of what I bring into my family’s life. It’s a safety thing,’ she added. Asked what lockdown life at her folks’ home in Liverpool was like, she said: ‘There’s nothing better than being with my mom, dad and brother on the couch and us all watching TV. My brother and I got some garden games, like badminton, to play over the washing line.’
