You cannot blame folk for believing this might be true

Further to Prince Harry being said to have ‘sold his soul’ by agreeing a deal with Netflix despite the TV giant’s unflattering depiction of his parents in its show The Crown (Metro, Wed).

The show’s writer, Peter Morgan, points out that The Crown is a ‘fictionalised drama’ rather than a documentary but, unfortunately, as it is portraying real people with a large sprinkling of facts, the story has many blurred lines whereby viewers can be forgiven for taking everything as fact.

The public know a lot from news reporting at the time and Princess Diana’s former butler, Paul Burrell, but coming to the present day we have a ‘fact or fiction’ situation with Meghan’s treatment by the royal family and those working within the palace/royal households.

What has actually gone on since she and Harry got engaged? My view is that Meghan was treated with disdain and, rather than be buckled, she wanted out.

Unlike his father Charles’s treatment of his mother, Diana, Harry has supported his wife against this negativity, resulting in their move to the US. This has gone down badly with the public, who have become acerbic with them on anything they do.

■ The vast majority of my friends in the US think The Crown is a true story about the royal family. I know that because of the number of times they say to me things like, ‘Wow, did you know that…’ and when I ask what makes them think that, they reply that they saw it in The Crown.

I repeatedly tell them it is a drama and not a true account but they are sold on it being a true reflection of events. I can’t watch it, myself. One episode was enough. It’s an embarrassment and has so many flaws. It also makes me angry that millennials here in the UK believe the inaccuracies and dramatic untruths added for effect.

As to Harry, that can he sign a contract with such an outfit as Netflix is disappointing and shows how low he has sunk. Shame on you, Harry! Where have your empathetic character and charming personality gone? You have abandoned those who needed you – and for what? Money.

■ Former royal butler Paul Burrell says Harry knew what he was doing when he signed for Netflix. I think he meant Meghan knew what she was doing.

Let’s review the facts, your honour. Prince Harry was a front-line royal. He gave it all up to marry an American actress and now lives across the Pond in California. He now makes television programmes for an American production company. Enough said.

■ TV presenter Piers Morgan writes that Harry is taking money made from humiliating his parents (Metro, Wed). I think Mr Morgan has a crush on Meghan or Harry, or both!

He’s always commenting that he dislikes them intensely and is never going to mention them again, yet every day he launches into a tirade against them. If he hates them so much, why does he not just ignore them?

■ Harry and Meghan’s Netflix deal is supposed to be worth £100million. It’s all about the money for them. The whole sorry saga is causing distaste all round. Sylvia Taylor, Kentish Town
