WILL WE EVER BE ABLE TO PACK UP OUR FACE MASKS?

- Ellen, via email Sara, London

As the national roll-out begins, it’s worth noting that the Covid vaccine does not eliminate the virus, it only stops it from attacking our bodies.

We may be vaccinated against the disease but will still able to pick it up, carry it and spread it to those who are not vaccinated.

So, vaccination is not going to be ‘route back to normal’ and the virus is not going away in the foreseeable future.

The government’s chief scientific adviser, Sir Patrick Vallance, is right to point out that the following of rules, including the continued use of face coverings, is necessary.

And people would be well advised to heed his wise words. Despite the very timely arrival of vaccines, we should not forget that we are still in the middle of a global pandemic, and that limiting the spread of coronavirus should be our number one priority.

A failure to adhere to the rules will just lead to further infections and deaths that we could easily have prevented.

When we went into lockdown, my wife and I were worried as to how we would get on with obtaining food and other essentials.

But thanks to our adult grandson, who has kept a close eye on us, we are now really up to speed with so many things we would not have dreamt we could done before the pandemic.

We have updated our very old mobiles to new smart phones and order our food shopping and other items online for delivery. We know how to make calls on FaceTime, send emails and texts with attachments and do all our banking online.

Before, we were brought into the 21st century, we thought that surfing the net was soaking the net curtains in Surf washing powder. Now we know different.

We understand that we will soon

receive advice on receiving our Covid vaccinations. But this saddens us because we would much rather wait and instead pass our allocated vaccinations on to our grandson and his wife, as they have to work and we do not have to venture out thanks to their help and can easily wait in the comfort of our home.

When it comes to the pandemic, Boris Johnson is the wrong man in the wrong job. It was he who blagged his way to the front of the queue to take the top spot, only to wake up one morning to find that UK Ltd wanted a leader and sadly he knew he wasn’t that person.

From one promise to another the populous have had to take it on the chin due to ineptness of the chosen few – because there is no plan, no strategy to make it compulsory to wear face masks, no plan to compulsory test everyone. UK Ltd will remain in lockdown in one form or another.

What a wonderful achievement by all the scientists and doctors for working 24/7 to get this vaccination programme started. I think they should all be recognised for their outstanding achievements.
