UNbelievable! World leaders lectured by a schoolboy, 15

- By BARNABY KELLAWAY

A SCHOOLBOY has lectured world leaders, diplomats and academics at the United Nations after producing a 55,000 word thesis on sleep patterns in adolescents.

Monty Lord’s study showed using technology at bedtime affects circadian rhythm – the body’s sleep-wake cycle.

Due to Covid-19 travel restrictions, the 15-year-old could not go to Geneva in Switzerland for the Unesco conference so gave the presentation on Zoom from his school in Bolton.

And time limits meant he also had to cut the hour-long presentation he previously gave academics at the University of Manchester down to six minutes.

The research was done in his own time at schools across Greater Manchester.

His studies suggested screen time can affect how quickly children fall asleep and how long they sleep for.

Experts say adolescents should get between nine-and-a-half and ten hours sleep a night.

Dad Fabian, a TV producer, said: ‘Amazingly, he didn’t get nervous and just got on with it. I think everyone enjoyed it.

‘To present his findings to the UN at such a young age is a brilliant achievement. Monty did really well. I’m very proud of him.’ Monty’s next research

project was into the effects of isolation on young people’s mental health during the coronavirus pandemic.

He presented the findings on an NHS England webinar.

Clever Monty has another claim to fame – this year he set world records by identifying 129 books by their first line, then naming ten novels by their lead characters in 11.5 seconds.

He is due to take GCSEs next year at St Joseph’s RC High School and is expected to take A-levels before going on to study at university.
