Arteta feels the Burn as own goal sinks Gunners

- By john payne Aubameyang (og) 73

PIERRE-EMERICK Aubameyang ended his goalscoring drought, but at the wrong end, to deepen Arsenal’s woes as they fell to a fourth straight home league loss for the first time since 1959.

Granit Xhaka’s needless red card meant the Gunners spent the last half hour with ten men and Burnley took advantage, Aubameyang’s own goal giving them a victory that lifts them out of the bottom three.

Some of the 2,000 fans in the ground left their seats before the end, while those who remained booed off their side after another abject performance.

Mohamed Elneny was the only player to break into the team from the 4-2 Europa League win at Dundalk as boss Mikel Arteta kept faith with ten of the side beaten 2-0 at Tottenham.

But his tried-and-tested players did little to justify that faith and Burnley striker Chris Wood missed the best chance of the first half when he headed Robbie Brady’s brilliant cross wide.

At the other end Nick Pope made a superb save to keep out Alexandre Lacazette and the goalkeeper was also busy after the break.

But Xhaka let Arsenal down just before the hour when he grabbed Ashley Westwood around the throat and was shown a straight red card.

Elneny displayed similar ill-discipline when he shoved James Tarkowski over while they were waiting for a corner but he escaped with a caution.

But when the kick was taken it was flicked on by Josh Brownhill and bounced off Aubameyang into his own net. The striker has not scored a goal for Arsenal from open play in his 11 Premier League appearances since signing a new contract in September.
