Reject the EU or should we sign whatever?

-

■ In answer to SD Weber of Tunbridge Wells (MetroTalk, Wed), the reason the UK cannot agree to 97 per cent of a deal is because the EU has always insisted there can be no deal until everything is agreed. It remains intent on keeping control of the UK, and the last three per cent is our sovereignty.

The whole point of

Brexit was to leave the bullying EU, and its insistence of maintaining control is precisely why we need to leave.

The EU is preventing a deal – or are you suggesting we sign whatever the EU says is best for the EU?

Andy, Warlingham

■ Heather from Bradford (MetroTalk, Thu) says she’s tired of people being negative about Brexit. Well, I’m tired of people like Heather who bleat on about what it was like when they were young, trying to drag us back to halcyon days that never existed.

Brexit was never the will of the people because the referendum was won by only

the slenderest of margins… more than four years ago! Boris is not plucky, he’s an idiot. Businesses have been told to prepare but not been told how to. The world looks at us in disbelief.

Daniel, Bristol

■ As a supporter of Brexit, I assume Heather wants us to have border controls. Does it not occur to her that being held in a queue on her return to Leeds Bradford airport is evidence that we already have them?

Peter Reynolds, Birmingham

■ I’m fed up with waiting – just get us out with or without a Brexit deal. The EU needs our money – that’s why we get threatened by them. We will survive just as we did before joining.

They are trying to humiliate us to stop the other states from following suit but if they have any sense they will! Look at the extravagant lifestyle those working in the EU have – all on expenses and all paid for by us! And who do they want to continue paying for it? Us!

M, Aylesbury

■ I can’t help feeling that the EU, with all its procedures for membership entry, failed to provide for the reverse. It’s like joining a business association, then finding a whole load of fines and obstacles thrown at you for leaving!

Eddy, Stirling
