... BUT BECKY IS OFF TO A ‘SCARY’ START BY SLICING HER PRO PARTNER’S FACE
DANCING ON ICE is gearing up for its return this weekend... and contestant Becky Vardy has confessed she injured her partner so badly during rehearsals that he had to go to hospital.
Becky, teamed with skater Andy Buchanan, admitted: ‘I seem to be the only one who’s ended up hurting my pro, putting him in hospital. I do apologise. It was awful; I think I’ve just come to terms with scarring his face.
‘We were practising a trick and changed it slightly from something that we would normally do. We did it on a daily basis and nothing would go wrong.’
But she added: ‘On this occasion, it went very wrong and the back of my heel and my blade sliced his face open. He was fine, all he was concerned about was making sure he could skate the next day, where I was not interested in that in the slightest, I just wanted to make sure he was OK.
‘It was quite scary. But it brings back the realisation that what we’re doing is really bloody dangerous.’
Becky, married to Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy, made headlines in 2019 when Coleen Rooney claimed her fellow Wag’s Instagram account was the source of leaked stories about her private life. Becky, 38, denies the accusation and they are locked in a legal dispute.
Before the ‘Wagatha Christie’ drama, she was best known for I’m A Celebrity and said braving the ice was more frightening than the Aussie jungle. ‘This is definitely far more terrifying; I think I’ve spent more time upside-down than I do on my feet,’ she explained. Becky’s rival celebs are radio hosts Myleene Klass and Sonny Jay, actors Jason Donovan, Joe-Warren Plant, Denise Van Outen and Faye Brookes, Olympians Graham Bell and Colin Jackson, musician Lady Leshurr, TV personality Billie Shepherd and comedian Rufus Hound.
The ITV show has helped Becky work on her naturally competitive disposition. ‘I’ve tamed the demon inside me a bit,’ she said. ‘I just want to see everyone do well. Every one of us brings something special.’
Dancing On Ice returns on Sunday at 6pm.
