DANCING ON ICE BECKY ‘NEARLY PASSED OUT’ AFTER SLASHING HER PARTNER’S FACE
DANCING On Ice star Becky Vardy admits she was ‘petrified’ at the idea of skating again after she sliced her partner’s face with the blade on her boots.
Becky, 38, said it was a ‘horrific’ experience to see professional Andy Buchanan carted off to hospital.
She was speaking as another injured pro skater, Yebin Mok, paid tribute to the NHS staff who treated her on Monday. Yebin’s leg was lacerated by a blade as she rehearsed with Olympic skier Graham Bell.
Thanking the team at Watford hospital, Yebin, 36, said: ‘They were all so kind... they truly are heroes!’
Becky, who is married to Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy, said that when Andy was injured during their rehearsals she thought he was joking ‘because he likes to rib me quite a bit’.
She added: ‘The last thing he said to me was, “Don’t kick me in the face.” We did what we were doing and he nearly dropped me and I was like, “Oh s*** what has gone on?” He was holding his face and I said, “Stop messing about”, and I laughed. ‘Then he removed his hand from his face and there was blood everywhere.
‘I can’t deal with blood, and I nearly passed out. I felt horrific. It just shows what we are doing is really dangerous. Andy was so sympathetic, he was more worried about me than himself and he kept saying, “It wasn’t your fault.”
‘You totally know it was your fault because if you’ve done it right it would never have happened.
‘But we have been doing this for a few months, not years and years, so accidents are going to happen... it’s just how you bounce back from them.’
The pair were due to skate in front of the show’s coaches the next day, and Becky was ‘petrified’, adding: ‘That was the first time we ran our Recovering: Yebin being treated in hospital, and our story yesterday routine in front of people and I felt so sick. I didn’t think I would be able to do it, but you just have to get straight back on it because if you don’t, fear will overcome everything you’ve achieved so far.’ Dancing On Ice returns to ITV on Sunday.
