I will help Timo turn the corner, says Frank

FRANK LAMPARD says hard work on the training ground is the only way to help Timo Werner rediscover the form that saw him become a goalscoring sensation in Germany.

Chelsea spent £45million to bring the striker to Stamford Bridge from RB Leipzig after he managed 35 goals for club and country last season.

But the 24-year-old goes into tonight’s game at Leicester without a league goal since the win over Sheffield United on November 7, although he scored against Morecambe in the FA Cup last week.

Lampard is clear how he can help. ‘I have to manage him on the training pitch, because this is where little periods such as this turn round,’ he said.

‘I had it in my career, it’s something all players will experience in their careers in their own ways.

‘When you’re a top player, as Timo has shown he is, all eyes are on you and that becomes magnified.’

Werner had the chance to seal victory in Saturday’s 1-0 win at Fulham but missed when through one-on-one.

Lampard was asked if his situation compared to that of Fernando Torres, who joined Chelsea for a then-record £50m from Liverpool in 2011.

He added: ‘I don’t want to compare him to anybody. That would be the

wrong way. Everybody’s story is different. Fernando had difficult times at Chelsea but was a pivotal player in winning the Champions League.

‘Timo didn’t score the amount of goals he has by chance – he scored those goals because of his huge talent. This is a small period in what I believe will be a fantastic career at Chelsea.’

Lampard is ready for a tough game against a Leicester team he expects to have a say in the title race.

‘Leicester are in the race for sure,’ he said. ‘They are a very good team.’
