THEIR FAILINGS ARE BEING REWARDED...
Horrific: The Grenfell tower block fire in 2017 caused the deaths of 72 people
The government has pledged £3.5billion of taxpayers’ money to address the scandal of unsafe towerblock cladding, brought to light after the 2017 Grenfell disaster, which killed 72 people (Metro, Thu).
What is the problem? Well, very soon construction contractors will be lining up to win multimillion-pound government contracts to correct a problem they have a responsibility for causing. What other industry would receive this kind of help for its own failings? If this was a faulty aircraft or car, they would be grounded or recalled until the company responsible corrected the fault at their own cost. And who placed the contracts in the first place? If it’s local councils, shouldn’t they be held accountable, rather than a taxpayer bailout?

A STUDENT protester fighting for her life in Myanmar was shot by police using live rounds, it has emerged.
Mya Thwe Thwe Khaing, who was 20 yesterday, is in a critical condition in hospital in the capital Naypyitaw.
A bullet penetrated a helmet she was wearing as she tried to take cover in a bus shelter on Tuesday.
Protesters against the military coup accused security forces of using live ammunition as well as rubber bullets and water cannon to break up rallies.
‘When her helmet was pulled off, I saw blood coming out of her head,’ her sister Mya Tha
Toe Nwe said.
Military chief Gen Min Aung
Hlaing (pictured) denied using live rounds on the crowds. But forensics expert Dr Kate Hewins told the BBC: ‘From the images provided, it is highly unlikely that a commercially available rubber bullet would penetrate this helmet.’
The shooting has galvanised protesters with some using her image on banners. Civil rights group Fortify Rights quoted a hospital doctor who said Ms Khaing was brain dead from an ‘imminently fatal gunshot wound’.
