Echoes of Diana as Harry reveals his fears to Oprah

- By JOHN BESLEY

PRINCE Harry said he feared ‘history repeating itself’ – in a reference to the death of his mother Princess Diana – during his highly anticipated interview with Oprah Winfrey.

Oprah promised viewers there will be ‘shocking’ revelations and ‘no subject off limits’ in a trailer for the CBS special, featuring Harry and his wife Meghan.

Royals have been warned to ‘ hide behind their sofas’ when the interview airs in the US this weekend.

The teaser, complete with dramatic music, has been released online by CBS. It features two 30-second excerpts from Oprah With Meghan And Harry: A CBS Primetime Special. The show has been extended from 90 minutes to a two-hour special that will be watched by tens of millions worldwide.

The first video begins with Oprah, 67 (pictured), asking the Duchess of Sussex if she was ‘silent or silenced’, with Meghan’s reply not revealed. She then asks the 39-yearold duchess: ‘Almost unsurvivable. Sounds like there was a breaking point?’ The clip then quickly cuts to Harry commenting: ‘My biggest fear was history repeating itself.’

In the second video he says he is grateful to have had Meghan’s support throughout his exit from royal life, while also expressing sympathy for what his mother Diana had to endure under similar circumstances.

Harry tells Oprah: ‘I’m just really relieved and happy to be sitting here, talking to you, with my wife by my side, because I can’t begin to imagine what it must have been like for her, going through this process by herself, all those years ago.

‘Because it has been unbelievably tough for the two of us, but at least we had each other.’

During the trailer a visibly pregnant Meghan, wearing a £3,000 black Armani dress and £17,000 diamond bracelet that belonged to Diana, says nothing.

She is seen nodding, while cradling her baby bump and holding her husband’s hand.

The teasers, filmed in Santa Barbara, California, where Meghan and Harry relocated, have been released days after the 36-year-old duke’s appearance on US talk show The Late Late Show, in which he told host James Corden the ‘toxic’ atmosphere created by the British press is what forced him and his family to leave the UK.

The Oprah interview will be screened in the US at 8pm eastern time on Sunday, which is 1am Monday in the UK.
