Bale and Kane forming a deadly double act

- By JOHN PAYNE

TWO goals apiece from Gareth Bale and Harry Kane lifted Tottenham above champions Liverpool and into sixth place in the Premier League last night.

It was a great night for the pair as Bale bagged his second consecutive brace in home games and laid on the assist for one of Kane’s goals.

As well as taking his own Premier League goal tally for the season to 16, his first a superb curling effort and his second capping a brilliant move, Kane was the provider for both of Bale’s goals – and leads this season’s assists table on 13.

Although Bale had to concede the man-of-the-match award to the

England captain, the on-loan Real Madrid star is being rewarded for his patience after playing a bit-part role for most of the season.

‘It’s why I’ve come here, the attacking players we have are amazing, not just the ones who played today but the ones on the bench and we’re all pushing each other,’ said 31-year-old Bale. ‘There’s a lot of fighting for places so you have to stay on your toes, keep working hard and we’re in a good moment now. It takes a bit of time sometimes but I’m experienced enough to be patient.’

Palace were very much second best but did go in level at the break after Christian Benteke capped their best spell of the game by heading home Luka Milivojevic’s cross.

They also had the boost of getting fit-again Wilfried Zaha back on the pitch as a half-time substitute and Roy Hodgson’s side, unbeaten in three before yesterday, are eight points clear of third-bottom Fulham.
