HARRY’S NEW TITLE
FROM HRH TO CIO... DUKE JOINS MENTAL HEALTH TECH FIRM AS CHIEF IMPACT OFFICER
THE Duke of Sussex has taken up a new role at a US mental health tech start-up – as chief impact officer.
Prince Harry, 36, said he accepted an offer from BetterUp – which provides coaching, counselling and mentorship online – after using the app himself.
His biography on the company’s website calls him a ‘humanitarian, military veteran, mental wellness advocate and environmentalist’.
And it says he is ‘focused on driving systemic change across all communities through non-profit work as well as creative activations’.
He told The Wall Street Journal: ‘I was matched with my coach who, quite frankly, is truly awesome and has always given me sound advice and a fresh perspective, which is so valuable.
‘I intend to help create impact in people’s lives – proactive coaching provides endless possibilities for personal development, increased awareness and an all-round better life.’ It follows Harry’s TV interview with Oprah Winfrey alongside wife Meghan, who revealed her own struggles with mental health and suicidal thoughts.
The couple say they have been forced to find alternative income streams since stepping away as royals, and last year signed a deal said to be worth up to £190million with TV service Netflix.
In 2020, it emerged the duchess had taken a job narrating a Disney film, though the role was unpaid. BetterUp will not say how many hours the duke will work or if he will get paid.
Yesterday, his brother William, 38, visited a vaccine centre at Westminster Abbey in London to mark the UK’s Covid-19 lockdown anniversary. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge held a midday minute’s silence in its Shrine of St Edward the Confessor.
