WINEHOUSE MUM SET TO REVEAL ‘THE TRUE AMY’

FILM WILL MARK TENN YEARS SINCE D DEATH

-

MY WINEHOUSE’S mum is poised to take charge of the tragic singer’s memory with a new film marking a decade since her death. Janis Winehouse will shed light on her daughter’s world in a documentary for BBC Two called Amy Winehouse: 10 Years On.

Janis, 66, who has multiple sclerosis, wants to make the programme to help her remember her girl.

‘I don’t feel the world knew the true Amy, the one that I brought up,’ she said.

‘I’m looking forward to the opportunity to offer an understanding of her roots and a deeper insight into the real Amy.’

Janis is described by the producers as ‘a figure close to Amy whom we have yet to hear a lot from and whose version of events often differs from the narrative we have been told before’.

Until now, the Rehab singer’s dad, Mitch, has fronted much of the publicity surrounding their daughter before and afte after her death in 2011, aged 27, due to alcohol poisoning. He and Janis divorced in 1993, when Amy was nine years old. After being heavily criticised in the wake of Asif Kapadia’s 2015 documentary Amy, the 70-year-old taxi driver blasted Kapadia’s claims that he didn’t do enough for his daughter as she spiralled into addiction. ‘What I say is misrepresented,’ he said. ‘I say that Amy didn’t need to go to rehab, right? ‘What I actually said was, referring to 2005, Amy didn’t need to go to rehab at that point. ‘Later on was a different story altogether which gives a totally, completely different meaning to what I said.’
