If you’re experiencing high temperatures... just enjoy it!

BUT THIS TIME IT’S THE TEMPERATURE ON BRITAIN’S HOTTEST MARCH DAY IN 53 YEARS

- By DANIEL BINNS

BRITAIN basked in its hottest March weather for 53 years yesterday – and it could be even warmer today.

Thermometers hit 24.5C in Kew Gardens, London – the highest temperature in March since 1968, when Cambridgeshire recorded 25.6C.

Thousands flocked to beaches and parks to soak up some rays, just a day after England’s lockdown eased to allow some outdoor socialising.

And in Suffolk, erratic weather saw the mercury rising more than 20 degrees in four hours, with the village of Santon Downham waking up to a frosty -1.6C at 7am but enjoying a toasty 19C by 11am. Forecasters said conditions were expected to be slightly hotter today.

‘The UK will see a few days of notably warm weather to end March, with a maximum of 24C on Wednesday in the south and east of England,’ said Met Office chief meteorologist Steve Ramsdale.

‘There will also be plenty of sunshine across England and Wales, however parts of Scotland will see some persistent rain over the next couple of days.’

But sunseekers don’t have long to bask, as temperatures are set to start dropping from tomorrow – and some regions could even see snow at the Easter bank holiday weekend.

‘Conditions will start to change through the day on Thursday as cooler air moves in from the northeast. Highs will fall to the mid-teens before falling further by Friday,’ added Mr Ramsdale.

And yesterday Good Morning Britain weather presenter Laura Tobin warned: ‘It’s insane – we will literally go from 24 degrees today in the south, (then) it will probably be six degrees by Sunday. There’s a chance of sleet and snow showers, frost by night. A real roller-coaster ride.’
