There’s definately a big clue out there, says Ted

LINE OF DUTY star Adrian Dunbar teased yesterday that a lot of the show’s ‘hardcore’ fans have already picked up on ‘a very big clue’ about the fate of Kate Fleming.

Sunday night’s episode ended on another cliffhanger, with Kate (Vicky McClure) in an armed stand-off with bent copper Ryan Pilkington (Gregory Piper). They were shown with guns aimed at each other before the screen went black and two shots were fired.

Dunbar, who plays AC-12’s Supt Ted Hastings, said: ‘We don’t know yet, but I know and a lot of Line Of Duty fans know what’s going on.’

He was appearing on Good Morning Britain, where host Susanna Reid said she was a fan of the BBC cop drama.

Dunbar, 62, responded: ‘I know you are, but we’ve got hardcore fans and we’ve got core. You’re core. There’s been a very big clue – there is a clue out there as to what happens next.’

The actor also revealed Line Of Duty’s creator Jed Mercurio doesn’t give the cast their scripts for the final episode of the series until ‘late in the day’, to keep them guessing about what might happen.

He said: ‘Regarding the ending, Jed always gives himself a bit of leeway. We don’t know for the first three episodes, sometimes Jed doesn’t know.

‘He might just say to one of us, “Do a look over here, a look over there”.’

Speculation is still raging about the identity of the drama’s fourth corrupt cop known only as ‘H’ – who, like Hastings, is known to spell definitely as definately.

Dunbar remained coy about whether he would be back for the next series. ‘I actually do not have any idea,’ he said.
