On a roll! Sky, 13, is youngest GB medallist

- By MARK STANIFORTH

SHE won the junior version of Dancing With The Stars before she even reached her teens but now Sky Brown is celebrating her greatest achievement to date – becoming Great Britain’s youngest ever Olympic medallist.

The 13-year-old held her nerve to nail her final run of the women’s skateboard park competition yesterday.

Sky won her bronze medal on the same day that triumphs in sailing and showjumping helped take Team GB’s gold medal tally to 15.

The skateboarding star’s impressive performance included the ability to shrug off successive falls in the first two of her three final runs and perfect the last – with a trick that had repeatedly eluded her – as if she was enjoying just another day at the park.

In May last year, however, Sky’s future in the sport had been thrown into doubt by a horrific crash during a training session.

Despite suffering a fractured skull, she posted from her hospital bed: ‘I’m excited to come back even stronger and tougher. My heart wants to go so hard right now.’

Meanwhile, Ben Maher won individual showjumping gold on his horse Explosion W, taking Great Britain up to fourth place in the overall medals table. And Hannah Mills became the most successful female Olympic sailor in history after claiming gold with Eilidh McIntyre in the women’s 470 class. Team GB’s Ben Whittaker won Olympic silver in the men’s light-heavyweight boxing, while Frazer Clarke took bronze in the men’s super-heavyweight division.
