Teen accused of murdering sister, 15, at caravan park
A TEENAGER accused of murdering his 15-year-old sister on a family holiday will go on trial next year.
Matthew Selby was arrested after he allegedly killed sibling Amanda in a ‘domestic disturbance’ at Ty Mawr Holiday Park, near Abergele, north Wales, on Saturday, a court heard.
They were staying at the Parkdean Resorts-owned caravan site when the tragedy occurred.
An air ambulance rushed to the 100acre seaside park but Amanda was declared dead a short time later.
Selby, 19, who reportedly has learning difficulties, yesterday appeared at Mold crown court via a videolink from HMP Berwyn, near Wrexham.
He spoke only to confirm his name during the 15-minute hearing.
Judge Rhys Rowlands set a trial date for February 28 next year and lifted a court order that had banned the media from naming Amanda.
Selby, of Ashton-under-Lyne, Greater Manchester, was remanded in custody until his next hearing on October 29.
A picture showing Selby hugging his sister emerged last night, as neighbours described him as a ‘happy lad’.
‘We’ve not seen them much recently as their parents split. Matthew lived with his grandparents,’ one said.
‘The girl was always polite and would say hello. It’s so sad,’ another added.
A statement from Droylsden Academy, where Amanda was a pupil, read: ‘We are devastated by this awful news. Amanda was a lovely student who will be sorely missed. We will plan a tribute, when the time is right, to remember all that she brought to our school.’
