HEROES ALL... TEAM GB STARS CELEBRATE AT HOMECOMINGHOM SHOW
AFTER weeks of quarantining and being separated from their families, Team GB’s Olympic Games stars were given a rapturous welcome home party last night. Stars including Rag’n’Bone Man, Anne-Marie and YungBlud lined up to serenade the Tokyo 2020 athletes, their families and key workers in the audience of 8,000 at Wembley’s SSE Arena.
They were congratulated on their equal second best medal haul of 65 podium finishes by Boris Johnson, who took selfies at the National Lottery’s Team GB Homecoming gig.
Among the highlights were Yungblud covering David Bowie’s Heroes, backed by dance-circus company Motionhouse, while Anne-Marie performed with the English National Ballet.
Gymnastic quartet Alice Kinsella, Jessica Gadirova, Jennifer Gadirova and Amelie Morgan and recordbreaking cycling couple Laura and Jason Kenny were among those letting their hair down. Breaststroke star and new Strictly Come Dancing recruit Adam Peaty’s latest gold at Tokyo was the 100th medal won by Team GB since National Lottery funding began. Speaking about his upcoming turn in the BBC ballroom, the 26-year-old from Staffordshire said: ‘I’m hoping my competitive nature is going to compensate for my dancing abilities!’ Fellow gold medallist, diver Tom Daley, got the celebrations going early on Friday with a night out in London’s Soho with his pals. His husband Dustin Lance Black stayed at home to look after their three-year-old son Robbie.
