Shotgun killer rowed with his mum before rampage
PLYMOUTH gunman Jake Davison shot dead five people, including a threeyear-old girl, following an argument with his mother, an inquest heard.
The 22-year-old killed his mother Maxine Davison, 51, with a shotgun at her home in the Keyham area of the city before going outside and gunning down four others in a 12-minute attack on the evening of August 12.
Three-year-old Sophie Martyn and her father Lee, 43, were shot dead in front of horrified onlookers as they walked their pet dog in Biddick
Drive. Davison then killed 59-year-old carer Stephen Washington in a park before shooting married artist Kate Shepherd, 66, in Henderson Place.
The apprentice crane operator then turned the gun on himself before armed officers reached him.
Coroner Ian Arrow formally opened the inquests into the deaths of Davison’s victims and their killer.
The hearing was told police were investigating the deadly rampage, while the Independent Office for Police Conduct would consider how Davison came to legally own a shotgun. The Home Office has asked police forces in England and Wales to review their firearm application processes.
Davison’s social media usage suggested an obsession with ‘incel’
– or ‘involuntary celibate’ – culture, an interest in guns and the US.
Reports have suggested his mother struggled to get help after becoming concerned about his mental health. The coroner adjourned all the inquests and set a provisional date of December 9 for reviews before the full hearings.
