Water millionaire’s wife, 37, dies on holiday in Med
A MULTI-millionaire’s wife has died while on a luxury family holiday.
Elsie Mogford, 37, had been posting photos from the £2million yacht she shared with husband Steve, 65, during their trip to Balearic island Menorca.
But days later she fell ill with a suspected heart attack at their £1million holiday villa and was declared dead on arrival in hospital.
Mr Mogford runs the United Utilities water company, which serves 3million customers across north-west England, and married Elsie two years ago after his first wife, Barbara, died from breast cancer at 61.
‘I’m in a state of shock,’ a family member told MailOnline.
‘I don’t know many details apart from she was on holiday in Menorca and she died on Tuesday morning.
‘They have a villa over there and all I know is that they called an ambulance.
‘She has two boys and it’s so sad for them. She was a very good horse rider and a lovely person. I got on well with her.’ Mrs Mogford leaves two sons aged 11 and 15, from a previous marriage. She was devoted to her horses and competed in eventing and dressage. Neighbours said they saw family and friends sobbing outside the couple’s £1.5million farmhouse in Chorley, Lancashire, which is equipped with stables and a dressage arena.
Mr Mogford, who has two daughters from his first marriage, has run United Utilities for a decade and come in for criticism over his £2.5million salary. Spanish authorities have yet to release the cause of death and the 80ft yacht, Sea Samphire, remained at the island’s Mahon marina last night.
A family spokesman said: ‘The family of Elsie Mogford announce her death, in hospital in Menorca, on Tuesday, August 24. Elsie was a wonderful, wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend and she will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her. The family request privacy at this very sad time.’
