An insane mission or act of heroism?

- Nik, via email Alison, Greenwich Tracey, Bromley

I support former marine and animal refuge founder Paul ‘Pen’ Farthing, who flew 170 animals on a private fight out of Kabul (Metro, Wed).

Ex-paratrooper Andrew Fox said it was ‘insane’ to enable the flight when British citizens and interpreters were left outside the airport because the Taliban’s agenda was to kill them, not animals and those who cared for them.

There is no evidence the Taliban would have cared for these animals – in fact, the version of Islam they ascribe to holds animals in contempt. Indeed, there is a long tradition in the West of exploiting animals.

The animals were in the hold of this aircraft. The fact the passenger compartment was near empty is the fault of the Taliban controlling the entry points and the Western military controlling the exit points to safety.

The astonishing support for Pen Farthing and his animal rescue

beggars belief. It is difficult to begin to understand the logic of placing animals before human life.

A recording obtained by The Times revealed Mr Farthing accused defence secretary adviser Peter Quentin of blocking the rescue and threatened to ‘f***ing destroy’ him (Metro, Wed).

There is a smear campaign aimed at Mr Farthing, orchestrated by the Ministry of Defence. Congratulations for falling for it and printing such a ludicrous article. Farthing is a hero.

Who will be looking after these dogs and cats? We have our own problems trying to find homes for the
