Get Nick Knowles to turn them into a DIY SOS squad

- Andrea, Halifax

Members of eco-campaign group Insulate Britain, which wants the government to provide insulation for all social housing, face jail if they continue to block the M25 (Metro, Thu). Why doesn’t the government just give them the insulation to install it themselves? So instead of causing disruption on the M25, they would make a great work force, get all the social housing insulated, get some great publicity for their cause and be loved by everyone. You could even get Nick Knowles from DIY SOS to run it.

Steve Davies, Cornwall

It annoys me how the media is biased against Insulate Britain’s protest. Civil disobedience works when the government chooses not to listen and is actioned when all other lines of communication are ignored.

The Suffragettes are now hailed as heroes and if it wasn’t for their actions, things may never have changed. We all have to be thankful to them, especially women. So, in a hundred years, will climate protesters be hailed as heroes and the government and the majority of the population seen as stupid and short-sighted?

Steve, Lancaster

The court ruling against Insulate Britain prohibits anyone from ‘blocking, endangering, slowing down, preventing or obstructing the free flow of traffic on to, or along, or off the M25 for the purpose of protesting’.

It won’t be long before these muppets move on to another busy stretch of roadway somewhere else in the country.

As well as fining them, if some do not have jobs and are financed by outside means, then the courts should be able to remove benefits.

It seems that all the Insulate Britain protesters have achieved is to further erode the rights of people to protest. Their protest was for something totally unachievable and misguided. Insulating older homes can cause damage to the property and is therefore of no benefit. They should have targeted the construction industry to ensure new homes are up to standard and ensure they take responsibility when they fail, such as with the cladding fiasco.

Martin, London

I can’t afford to insulate my own home. Insulate Britain wants the government to insulate social homes. So essentially Insulate Britain wants to utilise my tax money to go towards paying to insulate someone else’s home, yet they are stopping the taxpayer from travelling to earn the money they are desperately fighting for. How is that fair, Insulate Britain?

Bella, London

These ‘protesters’, are simply no better than terrorists. They are wasting valuable emergency services time and money and should

each be charged, as well as charged the full costs of policing the protests, as they are wasting police time, preventing the running of the country by blocking goods and hard-working people, services and possibly emergency vehicles trying to attend sick children.

They should be instantly jailed if they breach the injunction, and for the full two years. No early release either.

See how they like it to be imprisoned like the innocent motorists that they are blocking.

John, Lanarkshire

Activist Liam Norton walked off the set of Good Morning Britain after a heated clash with the show’s hosts, Richard Madeley and Susanna Reid (Metro, Thu).

But why are these lawless terrorists allowed to spout their fanatical nonsense to the UK TV audience in the first place? The two great things about his departure were that I didn’t have

to listen to any more of his theorist rubbish and I didn’t have to switch to Sky News instead.

Russell Williams, Newport

Why don’t the police use a fire engine and wash these people off the motorway? I’m 80 and back in the 1970s and staying in northern Europe, most houses had double glazing and insulation. So we fitted it in our first house and every house since at a very affordable cost.

It’s not up to the taxpayer to fund this sort of thing. Every homeowner can afford insulation and DIY – if they didn’t use money for other things.

Julian, Leamington Spa

The arrogance of these so-called protesters is breathtaking. The distinction between the right to protest and having your say and wanton mob rule is quite clear.
