‘CHOOSE AN EXERCISE TO DO THAT YOU ACTUALLY ENJOY’
Davina reveals her ten top things women can do to stay active and happy after 50
After 50, you don’t burn as many calories and so to counteract the middle-age spread, which happens to all of us, reduce your calorie intake and have smaller portions, but don’t deny yourself anything that you normally eat.
Do a little bit of exercise every day, even if it’s just a walk around the block. A friend of mine has lost a phenomenal amount of weight from just walking. He started only being able to walk a little, without getting out of breath, but now he’s walking 10k a day… he’s
gone Forrest Gump! 3. When you are walking, walk with purpose – like you are going somewhere; that will be exercise in itself and choose to walk to the shops instead of getting the bus.
4. Always make your bed in the morning, it’s an act of self-love, and a lovely way to treat yourself.
5. If you can, get yourself a little exercise bike, any kind which you can sit on in your living room. Then, when you’re watching telly, you can sit and just ride a bike. If it folds away, you can put it in the cupboard, after exercising.
6. Join a club! Working out or getting fit is much easier as part of a tribe. It is easier doing something with people rather than alone. Also, it is good to have someone to bounce off when you are finding it hard. 7. Just remember, set yourself achievable goals. If you set yourself a massive goal, and then you don’t achieve it, that’s only just going to make you feel demoralised.
8. Choose an exercise to do that you actually enjoy. If you hate running, but love walking, walk. If you love cycling, get on a bike!
9. Outside of fitness, I would say absolutely shorten your bra strap. It is very ageing – so keep it short!
10. Don’t make a noise when you bend over. It happened to me. When I hit 40, I suddenly started making a noise when I bent over, don’t do it!
