Boxing club plans fitting tribute to legend of sport

-

Crawley Boxing Club are busy putting the final touches to their blockbuster show at the end of the month.

The show, at the Goffs Park Social Club, takes place on Sunday, November 28, with a fantastic 16 top-class bouts on the bill.

But this is no ordinary show, this is in honour of the late great Geoff Hopcraft, the man affectionately known as the Godfather of Crawley

Boxing. Geoff sadly passed away last year, but due to the coronavirus situation the club has been unable to honour him before now.

The Open Tournament will also feature a special tribute to another of the clubs former boxers, the legendary Alan Minter who tragically lost his battle with cancer last September.

Club spokesman Ron Parsons explained just how special this particular show was, and what it means to the famous old club.

“Geoff was, and always will be a massive part of the history of Crawley Boxing Club.

“He gave more than 60 years of his life to the club, and was hugely respected throughout the whole world of amateur boxing.

“For obvious reasons the organisation of the show would be extremely emotive for both Rees and Peter, and for that reason they have taken a bit of a back seat.

“But club chairman Rees, who succeeded his dad in the role, has been superb in offering his help and advice.”

All of Crawley’s top England Boxing-registered boxers will be in action on the day. Boxing is scheduled to start at 1pm.

Tickets are now on sale with Adults priced at £15, under-16s £10, or a family ticket at £30. Call t07786 680463 or email ronparsonsboxing@gmail. com to secure your tickets.
