Shivnarain stars as the Swans start with victory
St James’ Montefiore v Lindfield
Sussex League Division 2 Lindfield got off to the perfect start to the new season with a dominant 48-run win at St James’ Montefiore.
Winning the toss and deciding to bat, the Swans innings was dominated by a 135-run partnership between skipper James Aggio-Brewe and vice-captain Simon Shivnarain.
Aggio-Brewe’s 61 anchored the innings while Shivnarain’s more dynamic 55 provided the impetus to ensure the visitors gained full batting points as they reached 228 in their 45 overs.
Henry Cope (4 for 39) and Archie Colville (4 for 44) were the best of the bowlers for St. James’s but the hosts did also rack up 58 extras including 43 wides.
In reply, the hosts struggled early on, losing three wickets with only 32 on the board, including dangerous Toby Pullan in the first over.
Luke Forster (72 not out) provided some stout resistance but only Tom Prideaux De Lacy’s 38 and Henry Sims’ quickfire 24 really threatened the Lindfield march to victory.
Shivnarain’s 4 for 32 capped a fine all-round display for the former skipper and MoM, while Dom Morgan (3 for 31) showed a placement year in the fast food industry has not hampered his accuracy or pace.
Aggio-Brewe said: “We’re delighted to start the season with a win, with a performance that was encouraging, but certainly not perfect. In an ideal world we would have finished off our innings a little more decisively and been sharper in the field, however today was about getting those 30 points and getting rid of the cobwebs.”
