10 years for thug who bit off bloke’s ear in pub

-

A DRUNKEN thug was jailed for 10 years on Tuesday for biting off a man’s ear in a pub.

Marc Jenkins, 24, lost his temper when another drinker accidentally stood on his foot as they queued up at the bar.

A court heard that by mistake he picked on by-stander Ian Minton who was out having a pint with friends.

Prosecutor John Pugh said: “He wrestled him to the floor and an off-duty officer saw him put his mouth to the side of Mr Minton’s head.

“When he got up he was holding his ear and blood was dripping on his shirt.”

Others drinkers picked up the piece of ear and packed it in ice but doctors where unable to reattach it.

Father-of-one Jenkins, of Beddau, Pontypridd, South Wales, admitted wounding with intent and was jailed for 10 years.

Judge Stephen Hopkins told him: “This is an appalling and barbaric assault. The public needs to be protected from you.

“You used your teeth to disfigure a completely innocent man.”

Cardiff Crown Court heard the attack was “life changing” for Mr Minton who was now too self-conscious to go out in public.
