A FORMER teacher who had sex with a male student who was 16 years old when the relationship began has been put on three years probation.

Brenda Ray, 40, pleaded guilty to three counts of criminal sexual penetration of a minor as part of a plea agreement.

Ray was a teacher at Rio Rancho High School in New Mexico when she began the relationship with one of her male students, which started when she performed a sex act on him after they had driven to a secluded area.

They later had sex in a park and at the student’s home. She was exposed by emails she sent to him recalling their encounters and talked about “sex in the hall.”

Ray’s husband later found out about the affair, and police investiged after an friend of the victim tipped them off.

English teacher Ray had resigned her position.
