KING’S BATTLE FOR NEW DEAL

AJAX v MANCHESTER UTD Thursday, Live on Channel 5, 8pm

SPURS defender Ledley King is fighting to avoid a pay-as-you-play deal as he tries to thrash out a new contract.

King (below) – who is unable to train regularly due to an ongoing knee problem – is out of contract this summer.

Negotiations between the former England man and Spurs chairman Daniel Levy have broken down because of his injury woes.

King has to be treated with kid gloves and can play one game a week at the most.

He is never involved in full training as a result.

King has been at Spurs all his career and would love to stay on but is desperate for a regular deal.

Meanwhile, Lille star Eden Hazard has told Spurs fans not to start crowing about signing him just yet.

Tottenham look to have moved to the front of the queue of clubs wanting to buy him after both Arsenal and Chelsea also expressed an interest.

But Belgium forward Hazard said: “I have not signed for Spurs or anybody. “I think it will happen soon.

“Spain is more my style of game but if I move there it has to be to Barcelona or Real Madrid.” we enter. Both teams have a lot of history in Europe, so it should be a great game.”

Fergie will be on red alert to quash the threat of Ajax’s midfield sensation Christian Eriksen.

The 20-year-old Dane is being chased by Europe’s top clubs and this could be an audition for a switch to Old Trafford.

Fergie said: “There’s been a lot of attention on the kid.

“Everybody’s been watching him but they’ve always been capable of producing good young players at Ajax.

“They like to produce their own players, which is a great part of who they are.

“You go back to Johan Cruyff and Ruud Krol – Christ they have produced some players!”
