Sir Jim mobile fails to find a new home…

-

A RANGE Rover which belonged to Sir Jimmy Savile, with a double mattress in the back, failed to sell at auction.

Bidding stopped short of the reserve price, at £10,000, on the 1978 Carawagon estate, which was owned by the TV star at the height of his fame in the 1970s.

Savile used to sleep in it when he was travelling between his five houses while doing sponsored walks and other charity work.

The custom-made, three door 4x4 motor was up for sale at a historic car auction in Brooklands, Surrey, estimated at £11k-£16k.

John Tomlin, from Historics at Brooklands who ran the auction, said “The owner is still keen to sell if there is anyone out there who would like this slice of history.

“This one has two mattresses in the back, curtains along the windows and a metal wash basin.”

The legendary DJ and fund-raiser died on Oct 29 in Leeds, just two days short of his 85th birthday.
