Ireland was one of the relatively few criminals in British jails for whom “life means life” – meaning he was never to be released and would die behind bars. FORMER soldier Colin Ireland – convicted of torturing gay men to death almost 20 years ago – died in jail last week.
Ireland, 57, is thought to have died from natural causes in the healthcare centre of top security Wakefield Prison in West Yorkshire.
