Wife has right to give play­ers stick

A FOOT­BALL chair­man has de­fended the wife of his club’s co-owner for go­ing into the player’s chang­ing room to “ex­press her opin­ion” at them at los­ing.

Eddie Mitchell said Irena Demin was en­ti­tled to speak to the play­ers of AFC Bournemouth dur­ing their de­feat on Satur­day.

But Mr Mitchell, 56, chair­man of the League One club, later apol­o­gised for swear­ing on air at “stupid and pa­tro­n­is­ing” ques­tions asked by BBC 5Live’s Mark Chap­man over the in­ci­dent at their Dean Court ground.

He de­fended the wife of Rus­sian bil­lion­aire Maxim Demin for go­ing into the foot­baller’s dress­ing room dur­ing their 1-0 home de­feat to MK Dons, say­ing: “She and her hus­band have put a lot of en­ergy and money into the club and I be­lieve that she is en­ti­tled to ex­press her opin­ion.”
