- By REX ROWLANDS

the fact that they had slept together the previous weekend.

Mr Ralph decided to ring his mother himself, after which, he said: “We went into the lounge, one thing led to another and we ended up having sex in the living room behind the sofa.”

Hitting

He told jurors he heard keys in door of the flat in Southampton, Hants, and ran into the kitchen wearing only a T-shirt.

He added: “Kevin walked into the kitchen and began hitting me almost immediately.”

Mr Ralph described how his younger brother struck him about the face, head and body.

He said: “I tried to put my arms up to protect my face. He just continued to hit me. He bit me on the left cheek and on my right arm.

“Then it stopped and he left. I was quite bewildered why he left so quickly. I went to see if Victoria was all right.”

He said he didn’t realise he had been stabbed until he saw his Tshirt had a lot of blood on it.

Judge Patrick Hooton heard Ralph had suffered a collapsed lung after being stabbed in the front of his body, and had sustained a superficial wound to the back.

Despite the affair Traves and Ms Hendricks are still a couple, the court heard.

Father-of-two Traves, from Southampton, said that he never intended to stab Mr Ralph, saying he’d got into a fight in the kitchen and reached out “blindly” in the hope of getting something to defend himself with.

He picked up a four-inch steak knife and plunged it into Mr Ralph’s ribs as they grappled in a bear hug, not realising at first what he had done.

Traves said: “I never intended to cause David any harm. I was very upset by what happened.”

He denies wounding with intent and the case continues.
