HARRY POTTER THUG JAILED OVER RIOT

- By JUSTIN DUNN

A HARRY Potter child star who swigged stolen champagne as he rampaged with a masked mob during the London riots has been jailed for two years.

Jamie Waylett, who played Draco Malfoy’s thug henchman Vincent Crabbe in the films, downed the bubbly when it was handed to him – after it had been looted from a Sainsbury’s store.

Violence

Waylett – a pal of Harry Potter stars Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint – was caught on camera during the third day of last summer’s civil disorder as violence erupted in Chalk Farm, north London, on Aug 8.

Waylett, of Kilburn, north London, was found guilty of violent disorder – which carries a maximum sentence of five years – at Wood Green Crown Court.

Waylett was cleared of having an article with intent to destroy or damage property in respect of a petrol bomb.

The actor, 22, refused to give evidence in court, but insisted in a police interview that he had only taken possession of the Molotov cocktail as he felt intimidated by peer pressure.

He admitted handling stolen goods in relation to the Champagne before the trial started.

In police interviews, he said: “‘A lot of people I knew were there so I wouldn’t have done anything stupid. I was just being an idiot.

“There was a bottle going round, my brother passed me it, and I had a sip. I have no clue where it came from.

“I didn’t loot nothing, I didn’t do anything stupid, but I was there.”

Waylett has appeared in six Harry Potter films and his character was written out of the final movie after he was convicted of growing and possessing cannabis.
