Posties nicked for mail thefts
THIEVING posties cost the country millions every year because they can’t stop nicking letters.
One postman every day is sacked for stealing mail.
And more than 1,700 have been prosecuted and dismissed in the past five years alone.
Complaints about missing mail have also gone through the roof – with Royal Mail shelling out nearly £5million a year in compensation for lost post.
Matthew Elliott, chief executive of the Taxpayers’ Alliance, said: “Royal Mail needs to stamp out this criminal behaviour.
“It’s unacceptable that so many Royal Mail staff are rifling through post looking for goodies to swipe.”
