Son dies ahead of dad’s wake

A GRIEV­ING son went to his vil­lage pub to plan a fu­neral wake for his fa­ther – but was killed when he fell into a river on his way home.

Rob Snelling, 47, had a drink in the pub where he planned the event for his 79-year-old dad Gra­ham’s fam­ily and friends.

He chat­ted with the land­lord be­fore leav­ing in the dark­ness to re­turn to his fam­ily home.

But mar­ried fa­ther-oftwo Rob plunged over the bank into the muddy river – and never made it back.

He was found by a dog­walker “face down in the mud” in the vil­lage of Crofty on the Gower, near Swansea, South Wales.

Land­lord of the Crofty Inn, Gary Essen­high, said: “He had been ar­rang­ing his fa­ther’s fu­neral the morn­ing be­fore he was found. He was go­ing to hold the wake with us.”

Po­lice are not treat­ing the death as sus­pi­cious.
