DERRY BAD NEWS FOR HOOPS

QPR v SWANSEA Sky Sports 1 – 8pm

-

QPR have failed in their bid to get the red card shown to Shaun Derry at Old Trafford overturned.

That means the midfielder (left) will miss tonight’s clash with Swansea at Loftus Road.

The FA yesterday rejected the London club’s claim Derry should not have been sent off after the 14th-minute clash with Man United’s Ashley Young. Rangers insisted there was minimal contact between the players in an incident that led to Wayne Rooney scoring United’s opening goal from the penalty spot.

But the FA upheld ref Lee Mason’s original decision that Derry denied a goalscoring opportunity – and imposed a one-match ban with immediate effect.

Derry will be replaced by Joey Barton while striker Bobby Zamora is fit again after an illness.

Defender Clint Hill believes the meeting with Swansea and the weekend trip to West Brom will go a long way towards determining the club’s fate.

He said: “The results at the weekend went in our favour, but the next two are the biggest games of our season.”

Swans pair Danny Graham and Scott Sinclair were rested for Friday’s defeat to Newcastle but will be return for this one.

Assistant boss Colin Pascoe said: “We’ve always said 40 points is our aim. There are six games left, so if we get a win the other teams will have to win four of their last five.”
