Defoe desperate for sticky ending

- By JON WEST

TOTTENHAM hotshot Jermain Defoe has told his team-mates to forget about their sticky patch.

Defoe wants them instead to remember just how good they were earlier in the season, so they can hold off the challenges of Newcastle and Chelsea.

Harry Redknapp’s side have had to give up on their dream of pipping Manchester United and Manchester City for the Premier League title.

And Arsenal are now favourites to claim third place, which means Spurs will have to dig in to hang on to fourth.

Monday’s 2-1 home defeat by Norwich didn’t help but Defoe – on target in that game – isn’t for giving up.

“It’s important to regroup now and everyone has to stick together,” he said. “We’ve had a fantastic season and we just need to think about how we’ve played before to win games.

“We’ve got to keep working hard and try to get as many points as we can.

“We’ve just got to try to forget about the Norwich result.”
