A PEEPING Tom was caught using a secret camera strapped to his shoe to video up women’s skirts – just hours after starting a course to stop him sex offending.

James Manchand, 48, targeted women in city centre shops and used the small voice-activated camera to make covert videos of them.

The unemployed father-of-two was caught after suspicious Boots security guards realised he was following women around their store in Manchester’s Market Street store.

When police were called, Manchand became agitated and was arrested, a court heard.

Officers searched him and found a small camera which had been strapped to his shoe under his laces.

Prosecutor Kerry Benn told city magistrates: “He’d been videoing women without their knowledge under their skirts.”

When interviewed by cops, Manchand admitted his crime but insisted it was a “blip in my rehabilitation”.

It emerged that on the day he was caught out – June 22 – he had only hours earlier started a course run by probation officers designed to help sex offenders as part of a sentence for an almost identical crime he had committed in 2010.

Pleading not to be jailed, Manchand told the magistrates: “I just wanted to say how deeply remorseful I am for my actions.

“I am truly sorry to the victims, my partner and everybody else I have let down.”

Manchand, from Bolton, Greater Manchester, was handed a 26-week suspended prison sentence.
