Man tried to drown Dipsy while tipsy

-

A MAN tried to drown a six-week-old kitten in his kitchen sink after a drunken row with his girlfriend.

Craig Francis Smith ( above), 52, would have succeeded if his ex partner not managed to grab the kitten, called Dipsy, from the beast.

A court heard Smith had saved the kitten’s mother six weeks earlier and the cat had given birth to kittens.

But after an evening of drinking, he and his partner argued after she accused him of caring more for the cats than her.

He then grabbed the kitten, telling her, “I’m going to get rid of them. I’m going to drown them now”.

He then tried to drown it in the kitchen sink.

Smith pleaded guilty on the day of his trial at Hull Magistrates’ Court to causing unnecessary suffering to a protected animal.

Smith has been fined £110 and was ordered to pay a £15 victims’ surcharge and £450 court costs.

He was also banned from having control or ownership of any animals for five years.
