Guard tar­get crim­i­nals get 27 years’ jail

THREE “pro­fes­sional, life­style crim­i­nals” who tar­geted se­cu­rity guards car­ry­ing cash in a string of raids across the coun­try have been jailed for a to­tal of 27 years.

Christo­pher Scully, 44, Wes­ley Owens, 32, and Kevin McLough­lin, 32, stole tens of thou­sands of pounds in a six-month crime.

Dur­ing one raid the gang smashed a stolen seven-ton lorry into the wall of a cash de­pot be­fore mak­ing off with a cash haul.

The ad­mit­ted con­spir­acy to rob on the first day of their trial at Worces­ter Crown Court.

Christo­pher Scully ( above), from Run­corn, Cheshire, got nine-anda-half years in jail, Wes­ley Owens, from St He­lens, Mersey­side, got nine, and Kevin McLough­lin, from Liver­pool, was given eight-and-a-half years.

The court heard they were fi­nally nailed af­ter they raided a cash box from su­per­mar­ket gi­ant Mor­risons in Leomin­ster, Here­fords, in June, 2010, barg­ing a se­cu­rity guard be­fore snatch­ing his cash box.

He said: “I get ex­cited about the nor­mal one be­cause I was in the House, but when it comes to the celebrity one there’s an ex­tra hype around it. Rat­ings dou­ble be­cause peo­ple love celebri­ties.”
