Mancini makes £5m Sinc splash

- By MATT JOHNSON

ROBERTO MANCINi is closing in on Scott Sinclair after Swansea admitted they’ve given up hope of holding on to the winger.

The Swans are reluctantly set to cash in after Manchester City’s £5million bid for the 23-year-old, who has refused to sign a contract extension with less than 12 months left on his current deal.

Sinclair is set to join £15m Liverpool midfielder Joe Allen in heading Stadium.

Swansea first team coach Alan Curtis revealed: “Scott’s not really interested in signing a new contract. City have made a bid.”

Swansea will rake in 10 times the bargain £500,000 they paid Chelsea for Sinclair in 2010.

And Curtis added: “It’s just a matter of time before it happens and it’s good for both parties.”

Curtis insists that Sinclair leaves with his best wishes, adding: “He’s been terrific for us. We’ve had two seasons out of him and he’s been superb.”

Swansea will use Sinclair’s fee to fund a £6m move for South Korea midfielder Ki Sung-Yueng after Celtic accepted a bid for the 23-year-old.

Daniele De Rossi has dashed Mancini’s hopes of pulling off another transfer after the 29-year-old midfielder re-affirmed his commitment to Roma.

De Rossi does not want to leave his boyhood club, having been at the Stadio Olimpico since he began his professional career in 2001.

“I’m staying,” said De Rossi yesterday. “I never asked to leave.”

De Rossi signed a new five-year contract in February, but City tested Roma’s resolve with a substantial offer.

“One club, the one you all know, made an enquiry. One or two others, but that was just talk,” added the Italy international.

“What I can promise everyone is that the day I want to leave Roma – whether it is to win the Champions League or to make more money – I will say so in public.”
