Nude man ‘Brit’ ham advert ban
A TELLY advert for ham, which shows a NAKED MAN in the countryside wearing nothing but a cap, has been banned after hundreds of complaints.
The TV campaign for Richmond ham shows the starkers fella staring at a ham sarnie and strolling past some fellow nudists who are tucking into a picnic.
After singing, the camera cuts to a shot of his backside while a voice-over states: “New Richmond ham. Britain’s only ham made with 100 per cent natural ingredients.”
The tongue-in-cheek ad has sparked a flurry of complaints with 371 viewers calling the Advertising Standards Agency (ASA) to say it’s inappropriate for kids.
Kerry Foods, which makes Richmond Ham, defended the ad saying it was designed to say their ham is made from natural ingredients in a funny and eye catching way.
But the ASA ruled it should be banned for being misleading as it boasts it is “Britain’s only ham” – when it is in fact made in Ireland.
