Jumping red lights? The butler did it!
EX-ROYAL butler Paul Burrell has been fined for jumping a red light.
Burrell, 54, of High Street, Farndon, was caught by police driving through a red light in Wrexham.
He did not show up in court but in a statement said the future of his flower shop was dependent on him being able to drive.
Magistrates heard Burrell, who was a footman for the Queen and later butler to Diana, Princess of Wales, was caught on CCTV driving his Ford Focus through the red light at a crossing.
He admitted the offence in a statement.
Prosecuting, Tracey Willingham said: “He clearly crosses against the red light, albeit it hadn’t been flashing long. He doesn’t wait.
“He was driving slowly enough and had plenty of time to stop.”
Burrell’s statement said: “This is my first traffic offence in over 30 years.”
Burrell was ordered to pay a £135 fine and was given three points on his licence. He was also ordered to pay £55 in costs.
