KOP A START AGAINST RIVALS

-

going to play a lot of games this season.

“Of course you want to play every game but you know that isn’t going to happen.

“I can also play in different positions but my best position is centre-half.

“Last year I think the manager was lucky that one of us had injury or suspension and he didn’t have to choose between us.

“But at the moment all three of us are fit and the only player that has played all the games is Jags. Competition for places makes you a better player. There’s a lot of competition in the team at the moment and the best player will always play.”

Toffees keeper Tim Howard is another big fan of Jagielka – and he reckons it’s time he got a regular run in the England team.

Animal

The Yank was another one singing the praises of Jags in the 1-1 draw with QPR, calling his defensive display “immense”.

“He has grown and grown and looks like he will cement himself in the England team playing like that. He’s been doing it for us for years,” said Howard.

“He’s been a real rock at Everton for a long time and we need him to have the momentum going into the derby on Sunday.

“He was immense against QPR – an animal. He’s a real leader.”

Landon Donovan has hinted he’d be up for a full-time move to Goodison when his current deal runs out in America.

The LA Galaxy midfielder has already had two loan spells with the Toffees during the MLS close season.

And, with just over a year left to run on his contract, the USA international is angling for a permanent move to the Premier League.

“I do think about them because they really stole my heart when I walked into Goodison Park,” he said.

“Everyone was so unbelievably welcoming, from Mr Moyes right down to the tea lady.

“Right now I need time to think and that’s impossible to do while I’m playing.”
