What dentist told shocked nurse
A DENTIST told a young nurse to have sex with as many men as she wanted and offered to show her ‘how it was done,’ a tribunal heard.
Raghuvir Patel made a series of sleazy remarks to colleagues, treated patients without gloves and failed to ensure that instruments were sterilised, it is alleged.
Both male and female employees had to change in a boxroom at his practice in Braintree, Essex, and x-ray fluid was routinely disposed of down the sink, the General Dental Council in London heard.
Tim Grey, for the GDC, told how Saskia Tikasingh, now a qualified dental nurse, was bullied go and f*** anybody’. I was a bit embarrassed but I suppose I just laughed it off.”
She said the dentist had made similar remarks to her “about three or four times”.
Hygiene
Of Patel’s clinical practice, she added: “He would use the same instruments the whole morning for orthodontic patients,” and when asked confirmed that he did not sterilise them between patients.
Mr Grey told
the hearing another former employee Susan Hasley would give evidence about Patel’s attention to hygiene.
He said: “She will tell you that when she worked with Mr Patel she had concerns regarding his clinical practice, because he failed to wear gloves when treating patients on a regular basis.”
Patel also allegedly shouted at his nurses and other employees, once screaming at Miss Tikasingh in front of a patient.
If Patel is found guilty of misconduct, he could be struck off.
