‘Bum-spank’ doc ‘a liar’

A GP accused of slapping a patient’s bottom and commenting on her overweight son’s ‘man boobs’ has been branded a “manipulative liar”.

Dr Amit Banerjee ( right) is accused of sexually motivated behaviour towards the woman on five occasions between 1995 and 2008.

The medic allegedly smacked her bottom when she was being weighed, told her to take her knickers off and conducted a breast examination without recording notes and with no chaperone. The GP, who retired last year, is facing a fitness to practise hearing at the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service in Manchester, where he is accused of misconduct.

Patient A, earlier told the panel that she had attended the surgery in 2008 with her teenage son who had concerns about his ‘man boobs’.

After examining the lad’s chest, Patient A claims Dr Banerjee said, “He’s nearly got bigger ones than you”.

Dr Banerjee, from Wynyard, Teeside, told the hearing he cannot remember any of the consultations, but the hearing was told: “It’s abundantly clear he is not telling the truth.”
