Princess is in trouble for ‘having cockfights’

AN EXILED princess has been arrested for running an illegal cockfighting ring.

Irina Walker, a member of the Romanian royal family, is accused of hosting the cruel bloodsport in her back garden.

She has been quizzed by cops over claims that she and her hubby John Wesley Walker staged cockfights and organized illegal gambling at their home.

Prosecutors claim the pair – along with other accomplices – ran a total of 10 cockfighting events in the past year.

Police reports say paying spectators were sold refreshments at the fights and the Walkers made more than £1,000 each time.

They have been charged with operating an illegal gambling business and conspiracy to violate the Animal Welfare Act.

If found guilty the pair, from Portland, Oregon, could face up to five years in prison and a fine of more than £150,000.

Princess Irina, 60, is the daughter of exiled King Michael I of Romania.

A statement on the Romanian royal family’s website said the king had noted with “deep sorrow the events related to Princess Irina of Romania”.
