Anzhi winger to cap Spurs cash splurge

WING wizard Willian snubbed Liverpool in favour of a clubrecord £30million move to Tottenham.

The 25-year-old is on the verge of completing the switch to White Hart Lane from rich Russians Anzhi Makhachkala.

He only joined the Russians in January from Ukrainian champs Shakhtar Donetsk. Anzhi are offloading their major stars this summer and Willian is up for grabs.

Liverpool, Man United and Arsenal were all chasing the midfielder, but Spurs have won the race.

Brendan Rodgers’ Reds had agreed to match the Brazilian’s £ 85,000- a- week wages at Anzhi.

But once Spurs matched their offer, the lure of living in London persuaded the player to join Andre Villas-Boas.

White Hart Lane officials spent most of yesterday going over the finer details of the deal with the Russian club.

With the signings of Roberto Soldado, Etienne Capoue, Nacer Chadli and Paulinho already in the bag, the Willian deal will bring Spurs’ summer spending to a staggeromg £90m.

But the departure of Gareth Bale to Real Madrid in a deal likely to be worth more than £85m means Spurs’ bean counters will not be overly concerned at the state of the club’s finances.
